The Air Force, and naturally the Navy and Marines, are facing a pilot shortage. On top of that, the fleet of fighter planes across the military is at an all-time low. Should the US get involved in a war with a peer, this could be devastating and thrust us into what is known as a "Doom Loop."
In a Doom Loop, losses in pilots and aircraft can’t be overcome easily. Experienced pilots aren’t around to train the inexperienced ones, and with less training, the new pilots last longer.
To fix it, leaders are calling for the Air Force and others to take steps, some of which are pretty drastic. We talk about the Doom Loop facing the world’s largest Air Force and what they can do to avoid it before it is too late.
