The secret to Joe’s success? He made the Union men cut their hair, bathe twice a week and change their underwear every seven days.
For the Union Army of the Potomac and its commander, Maj. Gen. Ambrose E. Burnside, the early winter of 1862-63 proved extremely taxing. First, they suffered through the disastrous Battle of Fredericksburg, fought on Dec. 13. After the army retired back across the Rappahannock River, regimental musters revealed a staggering loss of 12,653 casualties. Nothing had been gained. It had all been for naught.

There’s nothing like driving a slow car fast. You feel like you’re extracting every ounce of performance from it, which usually isn’t possible with today’s outrageously powerful machines. And while it’s maybe easiest to do this with a rental car or your uncle’s Miata, I don’t think anything can match the thrill of a wooden buggy with a jet engine. Gotta getcha one of those.
Such a thing exists in the form of the Thunder Buggy. It was built by a crew out of Millersburg, Ohio, who runs the contraption nearly every time it gets the chance.
The adoption of open radio access network (O-RAN) capabilities will be critical for the Defense Department and industry as they move forward with 5G and other advanced communication technologies, experts say.
In recent years, the Pentagon has awarded contracts and rolled out test beds for 5G and other next-generation capabilities. CIO John Sherman has said he’s particularly interested in scaling these efforts to include O-RAN technology pilots at additional installations.
O-RAN enables open interfaces, interoperable components and multi-vendor solutions for wireless networks.

On Tuesday, my 1991 Toyota MR2 Turbo vanished from the street in front of my home. It sent my head spinning as I spent hours on the phone with police and insurance and posted watch notices to Facebook all the while. I was confused, desperate, and vulnerable: The perfect prey for online scammers.
Within minutes of my first post on Facebook, I got a message on Instagram promising a tip. An account claiming to be a stolen vehicle recovery service said it had a report, and invited me to send over my license plate number and VIN.

Japanese automaker Nissan’s North American operations are currently experiencing a widespread network outage, according to Automotive News. The exact cause of the issue isn’t clear, however it allegedly affects multiple vital parts of dealers’ businesses, and it’s been going on for two days. In a memo seen by AN, the outage is said to affect internal email, some call centers, and “applications,” whatever that means. Other sources say it’s more widespread, however.
Kevin Mulvihill has been appointed deputy chief information officer for command, control and communications in the office of the Department of Defense CIO — a key position where he’ll oversee the Pentagon’s network modernization efforts.
Mulvihill had been serving in the role in an acting capacity, filling in after his predecessor Frederick D. Moorefield Jr. — who was recently arrested and charged for alleged decades-long involvement in a dogfighting ring — went on terminal leave. Now, he’s taking on the job on a permanent basis, the office announced this week.
One type of tire won’t satisfy every SUV driver. But a complete family of long-lasting tires—from serene comfort on highways to the most extreme off-road traction—can take any SUV farther. The five models in the Hankook Dynapro family offer a wide range of performance, all backed by world-class engineering and the discerning approval of major automakers.
The Dynapro lineup is designed for SUVs, crossovers, and light-duty trucks. These vehicles carry more weight and have a higher center of gravity than cars.

3D printing is a powerful tool, and its application in the automotive space is picking up steam in a serious way. OEMs are very interested, sure, but the really exciting application is being done by normal people in their garages, like YouTuber Sterling Backus, aka lasersterling. After 3D printing an entire body for a replica Lamborghini Aventador, he’s decided to rebuild a completely destroyed McLaren 600LT. And I do mean completely destroyed.
The car’s structural carbon tub is mostly intact, but it is going to require some repair.

In a storyline with all the right ingredients for a bombshell Netflix series, there’s a new development in Andretti and Cadillac’s journey to the Formula 1 grid. General Motors President Mark Reuss told the Associated Press Wednesday that it’s committed to partnering with Andretti Global and no one else.
“GM is committed to partnering with Andretti to race in F1,” Reuss told AP. “The collaboration between Andretti-Cadillac brings together two unique entities built for racing, both with long pedigrees of success in motorsport globally.
Most Americans who join the military are directly related to someone else who served. This legacy of service is a strong motivator that is amplified over multiple generations. For Jack Lowe, this motivation can be traced all the way back to his great grandfather who served as a pilot in the Marine Corps. Jack’s grandfather served in the Navy during the Vietnam War and both of his parents served in the Marine Corps too. Naturally, Jack planned to continue the family tradition and join the Corps after he graduated high school.

Scurrying off into our country’s natural landscape is has exploded in popularity over the past couple of years. Partaking in overlanding and off-roading guarantees ample opportunity to take it all in, and when stretched out over a long weekend, or a whole week, makes for a truly wondeful experience. Rooftop tents are a great accompaniment to any stretch out in the wilderness, as they not only help achieve an uninhibited view, but also make life and cargo management a lot easier.

For the past few years, there has been a quiet battle unfolding over the future of AM radio in cars. Some automakers have ceased including the feature in their vehicles, forcing Congressional action to maintain the AM-dependent national emergency alert system. While the carmakers have tried to rationalize dropping AM radio, newly released documents from industry groups reveal their protests were only ever about one thing: Money.

Let’s start with some truth.
Russia has been invaded many times over the centuries, some successful like the Mongols from the East, but Western invasions catastrophically failed — Napoleon and Hitler for example.
Russia has long considered Ukraine a ‘red line’, a buffer zone, its ‘near abroad’, a place to fight, to protect the Motherland from the West.
I am not supporting Putin’s invasion.

What is the greatest threat to peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait? For a growing number of analysts and officials in capitals around the world, the answer is straightforward: An invasion or blockade of Taiwan by the People’s Liberation Army. Such a fear is not without reason. China’s overt military threats to the island have grown steadily since 2016, when the Chinese government cut off formal contact with Taipei after the inauguration of Tsai Ing-wen as president.
