What is the greatest threat to peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait? For a growing number of analysts and officials in capitals around the world, the answer is straightforward: An invasion or blockade of Taiwan by the People’s Liberation Army. Such a fear is not without reason. China’s overt military threats to the island have grown steadily since 2016, when the Chinese government cut off formal contact with Taipei after the inauguration of Tsai Ing-wen as president.

Though the U.S. Air Force’s A-10 Warthog ground attack jets look increasingly to be in the twilight of their careers, they are still being sent to places where they could find themselves in harm’s way. Last month, a group of Warthogs touched down in the Middle East as part of a surge in U.S. forces into the region in response to the eruption of the latest Israel-Gaza conflict. Newly released pictures now offer an interesting look at the weapons loadouts on some of these jets as they sit ready to respond to contingencies.

The 2023 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170 is an amazing car, and it starts at just $98,261. For that plus the price of options, you get a zero to 60 time as quick as 1.66 seconds, 1,025 horsepower on E85, and a trip down the quarter-mile in an NHRA-certified 8.91 seconds, which is quicker than a Bugatti Chiron. One Michigan dealer thinks that means it’s actually worth $386,321. On top of a $133,131 MSRP, it has added a truly biblical $250,000 markup.
No matter how many safety measures are put in place, drag racing will always be a dangerous sport. That said, you don’t have to lean into that by riding in the bed of a wheelie-popping truck—with nothing but a helmet on—while it completes a pass. Someone did exactly that at South Carolina’s Darlington Dragway over the weekend, and the drama has been brewing ever since.

Back in 2021, something unusual started happening at CNC Motors, an exotic car dealership with a good reputation outside of Los Angeles. Dozens of individuals who had consigned their vehicles with the dealer reported their cars were sold without their knowledge, and they had received no compensation. We did a full report on what was happening when the entire situation was still unfolding a few years ago, and now everything has caught up to the dealer’s owner, Clayton Thom.

BMW
Several weeks ago, some BMW owners who recently unboxed their shiny new iPhone 15s were noticing a strange phenomenon. The phones support wireless charging, but using the pad inside their vehicles disabled the devices’ NFC chips, causing Apple Pay contactless transactions and digital car key functionality to fail. Owners hoped Apple and BMW could solve the issue through software, and it appears that they have: iOS 17.1.1, just released, restores NFC services and prevents further glitches when using induction charging “in certain cars,” according to patch notes.

I’ve hit a wall in my car-modding career. In my imagination, I can see custom parts that would make my Civic look like a Singer Porsche. But I don’t have the design skills to cook them up and even if I did, I don’t know how I’d get them made. This is why I’ve been spending so much time on SendCutSend’s website and talking to its Design Services agents lately. These guys can turn your napkin scribbles and cardboard prototypes into real parts, in a wide range of materials from cork to carbon fiber.

In the wake of the Vietnam experience, Big Army needed someone to blame. They chose to blame the Special Forces/Special Operations Community. A career Tanker and non-Special Operator, General Creighton Abrams felt differently. Abrams was the Commander of the 37th Tank Battalion in the 4th Armored Division, who General Patton personally lauded in 1944/45. Abrams saw the critical role and value of Special Operations in Vietnam and fought for them as Army Chief of Staff until his untimely death in 1974.

The difference between an expensive designer jacket you’d buy at the trendy mall and a mainstream one you’d find at Target isn’t radical. They both have two sleeves and a couple of pockets, and they’ll both do an equally good job covering your body. Similarly, you could buy a mainstream crossover to get you places, or you could buy an expensive designer one. You can probably guess which camp the 2024 Range Rover Evoque belongs to.
