Not many action movie stars can claim that local citizens have built statues of their iconic movie characters. The Belgian city of Anderlecht built a statue of Belgium’s favorite son, Jean-Claude Van Damme. Although not a movie character, Columbus, Ohio, has a statue of Arnold Schwarzenegger. Sylvester Stallone’s “Rocky” was immortalized in the city of Philadelphia.
Sly Stallone has one up on all his action movie contemporaries, after a statue of his legendary character John Rambo went up in the small Canadian town of Hope, British Columbia.

When the Japanese invaded British-held Guadalcanal in 1942, Jacob Vouza was already 50 years old and a retired Sergeant Major of the Solomon Islands Protectorate Armed Constabulary. The Japanese had undisputed control over the island for just three months before the Americans learned they were constructing an airfield at Lunga Point, which would have been a threat to Australia. 
In August 1942, the United States landed at Guadalcanal and Sgt. Maj. Vouza had already returned to active duty as a coastwatcher, observing enemy movement and rescuing Allied personnel.

A whole generation of veterans who joined the military in the wake of the September 11th attacks are turning 40. In other words, we’re getting older. On top of any ailments we may have picked up in service, we’re learning about all the fun that comes with the natural aging process, including some symptoms and issues that can feel a little embarrassing.
But the fact is, many people face these issues, and veterans in particular tend to experience them more than the rest of the American population.

Equipment supplier ABB has won a contract to re-equip the Spanish Navy flagship Juan Carlos I with an electric propulsion system based on ABB Azipod twin drives.
According to reports, the firm has finalized a deal with the Spanish shipyard Navantia. ABB conducted a feasibility study for new thrusters on the ship in 2020, which led to the award of the contract. ABB Azipod was found to be the best option for the ship based on the study’s criteria for reliability, efficiency, maneuverability, and safety.

Just over five years after a somewhat embarrassing botched takeoff at a Navy training station, one of the Air Force’s F-22 Raptor fighter jets has finally rejoined the fleet, the service announced last week.

Mauricio Garcia, the suspect in Saturday’s mass shooting in Allen, Texas, was kicked out of the Army before finishing basic training, the service said on Monday.
“Mauricio Garcia entered the regular Army in June 2008; he was terminated three months later without completing initial entry training,” Army spokeswoman Heather Hagan said in a statement to Task & Purpose. “He was not awarded a military occupational specialty. He had no deployments or awards.

The Army Science Board is conducting a study on testing, validating and protecting its data sets for artificial intelligence and machine learning applications — and it wants industry to weigh in.

The service for several years has been building out its doctrine for information advantage, the Army’s parlance for information warfare.
