Trump Has an Imperfect Way Out of the Iran War – The Iran war returned to active military conflict again this week, with the United States launching a new barrage of strikes against Iranian military targets and Tehran retaliating by hitting American positions throughout the Middle East. The return to active war followed attacks on tankers moving through the Strait of Hormuz and ended a month-long period of relative calm, in which U.S. strikes had largely stopped. And for President Trump, the timing couldn’t be worse.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has signaled the possibility of a peace agreement with Ukraine at the Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok.

“We want to warn every airline that uses Russian airspace, every insurer, and everyone who still uses Russia’s key airports: Russian airspace is becoming completely unsafe,” Zelenskyy said Tuesday.

On Friday, a Russian attack damaged the headquarters of Ukraine’s Security Service in Kyiv city center.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said a Russian drone hit the SBU’s flagship premises on Volodymyrska Street, directly across from St. Sophia Cathedral.

Record Diesel Prices – Diesel prices have soared in the United States to their highest level ever, putting more pressure on American consumers and causing more headaches for President Donald Trump as his party heads into the November midterms. The national average reached $5.85 per gallon on Friday, September 4, according to AAA data. It rose from $5.78 the day before.

That’s bad news, as so much is transported by diesel that there is bound to be a wide inflationary impact.

“Band of Brothers” is the show that all World War II shows strive to be. HBO and Apple TV tried to replicate its success with “The Pacific” and “Masters of the Air,” but nothing has been able to dethrone the 10-part miniseries that followed Easy Company from Georgia to Germany.

There has not been much in the way of peace talks this year between Russia and Ukraine, as a few sessions earlier this year yielded no progress, and the war has since escalated.

The conflict has now lasted four and a half years and seems likely to reach the five-year mark next year without resolution.

This week, indications suggest Russia and Ukraine may be returning to the diplomatic table, with American envoys reportedly set to visit both Moscow and Kyiv this weekend.

But another report Friday shows that Russia might be planning a new mobilization, possibly after Russia’s parliamentary elections later in September.

For PBS NewsHour, Simon Ostrovsky reported on a possible plan by Russia to send more soldiers to war, after Russia has reportedly been losing about 40,000 men a month.

Textron Systems recently secured two task orders from Naval Air Systems Command to use contractor-owned, contractor-operated drones to provide intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance services in support of 7th Fleet in the Pacific and other U.S. military forces.
Procuring those services from contractors allows the military to boost its ISR capacity without having to buy and maintain additional platforms and manage their full lifecycles.
