One of the pilots killed in a crash of an Army special operations helicopter was a former officer who gave up his commission to keep flying in the Army. The other pilot had been a helicopter mechanic in the Marines before crosstraining into the Army to fly.
Two enlisted crew chiefs who died in the crash were both in their early 20s and relatively junior flyers, with just over 700 flying hours each.

The Army is looking to cut 6,500 soldiers from its aviation corps of about 30,000 as drones continue to compete as the future of low-altitude air dominance for the Army. The reduction will initially focus on junior officers and warrant officers with senior panels evaluating these aviators performance records, potential for retention, and the possibility of branch reassignment within the Army.
With the Navy on a bye week, fans of service academy football turned their attention to Army and Air Force, as both teams were engaged in hard-fought battles against conference adversaries on Saturday. Army looked to hand American Athletic Conference (AAC) opponent North Texas its first loss of the season, while Air Force hoped to win their first Mountain West Conference (MW) game against a tough Boise State team.
Unfortunately for both schools, they came up on the losing end of their respective fights.
