Officials at the German Ministry of Defence are considering options to leave the Future Combat Air System (FCAS) next generation fighter program, which has been pursued from 2018 as a pan-European project to develop the continent’s first class of stealth fighter. The program has been led by France and Germany, with Spain having joined in 2019 as a more minor partner, followed by Belgium. German officials are currently exploring how the country’s defence sector may leave the program, with German Air Force officials having briefed parliamentary lawmakers on the issue earlier in the week.

When people think of the U-boat war in the Atlantic, they think of the North Atlantic: cold, windy, grey, foreboding. Three of the best movies on the topic, The Cruel Sea, Das Boot, and Greyhound, only reinforce this view.
There was a lot more to the war than that. Far from sideshows, other theaters were critical points in the Axis’s attempt to choke supplies to Europe. Gaylord T. M. Kelshall’s superb book, The U-Boat War in the Caribbean, does the best job in pointing out that theater from the mouth of the Mississippi River to where our focus is today.

An Army MH-60 Black Hawk helicopter from the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (SOAR) crashed Wednesday night near Joint Base Lewis-McChord, military officials said.
The helicopter went down around 9 p.m. in a rural area outside the installation. The aircraft was carrying four soldiers at the time of the crash. The conditions of the passengers have not been disclosed.
On Thursday, deputies with the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office located the crash site in the Summit Lake area, the sheriff’s office announced on Facebook post.

Eight decades after he died, the Department of Defense confirmed it had positively identified the remains of Capt. Willibald Bianchi, a Medal of Honor recipient who went “beyond the call of duty in action with the enemy” while fighting in the Philippines during World War II. 
Bianchi was captured during the fall of the Philippines to Japanese forces and survived the Bataan Death March. He would eventually die near the end of the war on Jan. 9, 1945, when U.S. planes hit the Japanese transport ship the Enoura Maru that he was on near Taiwan.
