Dozens of U.S. military personnel arrived in Jamaica today to provide humanitarian and disaster assistance after Hurricane Melissa tore through the country.
The advance wave of troops arrived in the country’s capital of Kingston today, with three CH-47 Chinooks from 1st Battalion, 228 Aviation Regiment bringing 40 service members from different branches as well as an initial cache of supplies. The advance team is there “to provide immediate, lifesaving and humanitarian support,” the U.S. military said.

Anduril’s prototype drone developed for the Air Force’s Collaborative Combat Aircraft (CCA) program has taken its first live flight, the service announced Friday.
The company conducted the flight of the unmanned fighter jet — known as the YFQ-44A — on Friday at a test location in California, the Air Force said in a press release. Beginning live flight tests of the CCA prototype “expands the program’s knowledge base on flight performance, autonomous behaviors and mission systems integration,” the service noted.

Mandatory daily physical fitness will likely be official policy in the Air Force before Christmas, but many units across the service are getting an early start on daily workouts, marking a major culture shift in the force.
One aircraft mechanic at an overseas Air Force base told Task & Purpose their commander had implemented daily PT, shorthand for “physical training,” at 5 a.m. before a full day on the job, but they were finding the base’s gyms were overrun with other groups doing the same thing.
