The Russian A-235 strategic missile defence system has since 2019 formed the top tier of the country’s ground-based air defence network, and was designed to protect Moscow and other key national command assets from intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs), hypersonic weapons, satellites, and space aircraft. The system is assessed to have longest engagement range of any operational missile defence system in the world, with interceptors capable of engaging targets hundreds of kilometres away and at altitudes extending into space.
The Trump administration has not been kind to India. Nevertheless, India has responded with far greater equanimity than most observers expected. Predictions that President Donald Trump’s behavior will hurt U.S.-Indian relations have not come to pass, with the leaders of the two countries remaining in frequent and friendly conversation. Instead of retaliating, India has responded calmly, though the Indian government faces considerable domestic criticism.
Following the release of satellite imagery showing a new class of Chinese nuclear powered submarine at the Jiangnan Shipyard in Shanghai in early June, the release of the first ground level footage has provided further insight into the mysterious vessel’s unique design features, raising further questions regarding the planned future of the fleet. Although the warship was previously thought not to have a sail, footage from ground level has shown a small sail structure with an unusually large X rudder.
Footage released by Chinese state media marking the 60th anniversary of the People’s Liberation Army Rocket Force, which is responsible for operating the large majority of the country’s ballistic missile arsenal, has shown the DF-17 hypersonic missile units taking part in operations. The footage featured road-mobile DF-17 transporter-erector-launchers conducting field deployments and launch preparations, highlighting one of the Rocket Force’s most advanced conventional strike capabilities.
New footage from the Russian Far East near the country’s largest production facility for fighter aircraft, the Komsomolsk-on-Amur Aviation Plant, has shown two newly produced Su-57 fifth generation fighter aircraft in flight. The aircraft are already flying in what appear to be Russian Aerospace Forces colours, rather than factory primer, and may be undergoing trials before delivery to the Armed Forces. This would follow the reported delivery of a prior large batch on February 9.
The Army activated a new unit this week, combining two formations under a single command that officials said will give the service a theater-level, multidomain entity capable of independently maneuvering around the Pacific.
Army officials have been teasing the establishment of the Multi-Domain Command-Pacific (MDC-PAC) for more than a month, a two-star command that combines the 7th Infantry Division and the 1st Multi-Domain Task Force into a “self-contained,” mobile force that can deliver cyber, space, electronic warfare, intelligence and fires effects in theater.
The tide just turned in the war in Ukraine, as Ukrainian drones struck the Gazprom Neft-owned Moscow Oil Refinery in the Kapotnya district of Moscow – just nine miles from the Kremlin. The strike was seen around the world when videos of a fuel storage tank lid being shot hundreds of feet into the air went viral.
The attack is representative of Ukraine’s newfound capabilities.
President Donald Trump presented the Medal of Honor on Thursday to three service members who fought in Vietnam and Afghanistan: Retired Marine Maj. James Capers Jr.; retired Army Maj. Nicholas Dockery; and retired Marine Col. John W. Ripley, who received the award posthumously.
Capers saved his reconnaissance team in South Vietnam following a bloody ambush in April 1967. Dockery’s bravery during a 2012 battle in Afghanistan included using his body to shield another soldier from a grenade blast and stopping the Taliban from capturing another soldier.
Gen. Randall Reed considers himself on an active quest to gain “an ever-increasing understanding” of the logistics and transportation networks that move and power America’s military.
And in the process, the commander of U.S. Transportation Command intends to find where there is, as he puts it, “room to make things better or faster” for the joint force.
