The Navy made a $42 million drug bust last week, stopping a small vessel even as the crew was attempting to ditch some of the illicit cargo. The seizure occurred on April 21, when the guided-missile destroyer USS Paul Hamilton intercepted a fishing boat transiting the Gulf of Oman.

The Navy aircraft carrier USS George H.W. Bush returned from a grueling deployment in style over the weekend, pulling into its homeport at Naval Station Norfolk in Virginia with its battle flag flying proudly from the warship’s main island.

Sikorsky’s losing proposal, submitted together with Boeing, for replacing at least a significant portion of the U.S. Army H-60 Black Hawk helicopters was roughly half the cost of the bid from Bell. However, the Army contended that it could not assess how realistic the Sikorsky/Boeing cost figure was, as well as other aspects of the pitch, because of a lack of key technical data. Bell won the competition to design and build what is currently known as the Future Long-Range Assault Aircraft, or FLRAA, in December 2022.

Aero Vodochody has flown for the first time a production standard L-39NG (Next Generation) aircraft, the Czech manufacturer announced on 24 April.
The flight, which lasted approximately 40 minutes, saw the single-engined twin-seat jet perform a series of manoeuvres to assess its flight characteristics, as well as the functions of the engine, aircraft systems, and avionics.

Germany’s Federal Office of Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support (Bundesamt für Ausrüstung, Informationstechnik und Nutzung der Bundeswehr: BAAINBw) has awarded a contract to Rheinmetall-Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW) fifty-fifty joint venture Projekt System Management (PSM) to upgrade 143 more German Army Puma infantry fighting vehicles (IFVs), the two companies announced in a joint press release on 19 April.

In an interview with Reuters, reported 19 April, South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol signalled that his government may change its position on arming Ukraine in response to the Russian invasion, saying that it would be difficult for South Korea to insist on only offering financial and humanitarian support in the face of large-scale attacks on civilians that are perpetrated by Russia.
This is the first time that South Korea has indicated it would consider providing lethal aid.
A global security and aerospace company, Lockheed Martin, has been awarded a $2.4bn modification to a contract for Phased Array Tracking Radar Intercept on Target (Patriot) Advanced Capability-3 missile production.
The contract will see work being performed in Grand Prairie, Texas, with an estimated completion date of late December 2029, and the US Army Contracting Command, Redstone Arsenal, Alabama, serving as the contracting activity.
The Patriot missile system is a surface-to-air missile defence system designed to intercept and destroy incoming enemy missiles and aircraft.
