For more than 40 years, the FIM-92 Stinger has been one of the U.S. Army’s most effective air defense weapons. It helped change the war in Afghanistan, protected troops for decades, and is still being used in Ukraine today.
But drones have changed the battlefield.
Now, the Army is developing the Next Generation Short-Range Interceptor (NGSRI) to replace the Stinger and give soldiers a better way to defeat everything from helicopters and cruise missiles to the growing threat of small drones.
