The Flying Barrel! The Saab 29, a machine built to fight the Russians, became a military icon that marked history. This dual fighter bomber was kept in the Swedish Air Force for over two decades; even today, three can be admired in European museums. But what makes this ship a masterpiece?
The origin of the Saab 29: why was it so important?

On March 20, the Ukrainian Defense Intelligence Directorate announced the destruction of “large stocks” of Russian Kalibr cruise missiles.
These missiles were transported by rail and were to be deployed from surface ships of the Russian Black Sea Fleet. The Kalibr, one of Russia’s most advanced and accurate cruise missiles, can be fired from the sea or air. Its effective range is more than 2,500 km on land and 375 km at sea.
Russia has regularly used sea-launched Kalibr missiles to attack civilian infrastructure, sparking an escalation in the war between the two countries.

The U.S.-promised MIM-104 Patriot air defense system will be delivered to Ukraine sooner than anticipated, according to U.S. military officials.
On Dec. 21, the day U.S. President Joe Biden promised Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky that the U.S. would give his nation one of its Patriot systems, a senior U.S. defense official told reporters, including from The War Zone, that the delivery could take a while, with the training of Ukrainian troops expected to last at least several months.

From the perspective of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, more than 20 Ka-52s and Mi-28-NMs have been shot down so far. We must consider whether this expensive armed helicopter is needed with such a low survival rate. Would it be a better choice to use a lower-cost surveillance drone?
First of all, let’s look at the significance of the existence of armed helicopters.
Most of the time, the main task of armed helicopters is to use rockets to provide fire support to ground armed forces or to attack opponent tanks or armored vehicles through anti-tank missiles.
The Army’s new armored personnel carriers have been sent to the front lines, replacing a Vietnam-era vehicle that made up over a third of tracked vehicles in the service’s heavy armored formations.
On March 13, approximately 20 of the new vehicles were delivered to the 1st Armored Combat Brigade, 3rd Infantry Division.
As the Russian invasion of Ukraine continues, 60 Armored Multi-Purpose Vehicles (AMPVs), tracked armored vehicles with gearing and suspension identical to the M2 Bradley Fighting Vehicle, are on their way there.

After decades of bidding for peace, Japan is now once more preparing for the possibility of war, for the first time truly introducing offensive capabilities to the Japan Self-Defense Forces (JSDF) and installing long-range anti-ship missiles on islands near Taiwan. Despite its post-Cold War hopes of diplomatically resolving its territorial conflicts, it now finds itself perched at the edge of an increasingly assertive China and Russia (which still occupies four of Japan’s southernmost Kuril Islands) and a nuclear-capable North Korea.
Russia vowed to destroy all fighter jets donated to Ukraine by European nations after Poland and Slovakia, backed by new equipment and funding from the US and the European Union, became the first countries to send fighter jets to Kyiv.
Fighter jets have long been a demand for Volodymyr Zelensky’s Ukrainian government since the renewed Russian invasion in early 2022, but NATO leaders have so far shied away from what they saw as a major escalation of their involvement in the conflict.

Though additive manufacturing is such an emerging field that new requirements and approvals typically must be explored and set for most military and government use, Air Force Global Strike Command is eyeing new 3D-printing implementations to help meet some of its most demanding weapons sustainment needs, Brig. Gen. Kenyon Bell said on Tuesday.
It is no secret that the Ukrainian Army plans to launch a major counteroffensive this spring, perhaps as soon as the mud dries after the winter. We may have already seen the initial Ukrainian probes that could precede a broader attack.
But the polls have been extremely costly for the Ukrainians and underscore the danger of any effort by Kyiv to switch from defense to offense.
Since last fall, Kyiv’s forces have been fighting mainly defensively from positions they have had months to prepare.
