The Pentagon announced this week that it intends to continue patrolling international territory despite Moscow putting the U.S. on notice after an incident last week in which an American MQ-9 Reaper drone was intercepted and then subsequently crashed into the Black Sea. The Kremlin has announced that it has closed some of the airspace over the Black Sea as part of a ‘special operation’ taking place in Ukraine.

It’s easy to forget that despite the Allies eventually having America and the U.S.S.R., which had the largest fleets for most of World War II and the Cold War, the Axis Powers actually started the war with a larger combined navy than their foes.
Navy fleet sizes at the start of the war
The largest fleet at the start of World War II was technically the British Royal Navy. But many of its ships were pre-World War I and World War I designs that were aging and outdated. The French fleet entered the war a little smaller. Germany quickly knocked it out of the war with the capture of Paris.
Tony Stein had an epic military career. An Ohio native, he worked as a toolmaker before World War II, where he picked up some skills that (little did he know) would come in handy while fighting the Japanese. Stein joined the Marine Corps Reserve in 1942, because he knew they would be among the first to be sent into combat – and he was right.
Stein was a member of the experimental and short-lived Marine Corps Paratroopers. They never made a combat jump, but the unit was so highly trained that, with a little experience under their belt, became as capable in combat as the Marine Raiders.

History
If you want to know how we got here, you have to look to the past. The Art of War by Sun Tzu is a classic that’s been around for over 2,000 years. It may have been written in ancient China, but the lessons about strategy and tactics still apply today.

World War II Burma might not be the most talked-about theater of World War II, but it was no less brutal, no less important, and saw its share of combat heroism. The Japanese wanted to capture Rangoon to cut off the flow of overland supplies to China. The British and Allies needed to secure Burma to stem any possible advance into British India – and battles didn’t often go the way the British wanted.
Had the war continued, the Burma Campaign would have not only allowed for the flow of supplies, it could have opened up an entirely new front in China.
Following Iranian cyberattacks against Albanian networks last year, a team from U.S. Cyber Command embarked on a months-long deployment to survey the damage and gain insights into the tactics used. The so-called hunt forward operation was the first such action taken with the nation of Albania, according to a Cybercom release on Thursday that shed more light on the effort.
These types of ops involve physically sending defensively oriented cyber protection teams from the U.S.
