Following last week’s deadly attacks in Syria by Iranian-backed forces, the United States has chosen to prolong the deployment of the George HW Bush carrier strike group to give policymakers options, US military officials announced Friday.
The choice means, in all likelihood, that the planned return to the US home port of the Bush strike group and its more than 5,000 US troops, currently in the European Command’s operating region, will not take place.

Ukraine has received German and Portuguese Leopard 2A6 and UK Challenger 2 main battle tanks (MBTs). The Portuguese Ministry of National Defence tweeted on 27 March that the three Leopard 2A6s donated by Lisbon were in Ukraine.

The renewed U.S.-backed offensive in Somalia against the militant group al-Shabaab is yielding results. al-Shabaab has suffered heavy casualties and is losing territory, around a third of the land it previously controlled is back in the government’s hands.
