China’s first heavyweight attack helicopter the Z-20T, which was developed to complement the Z-10, has been featured in flight demonstrations at the 7th China Helicopter Exposition in Tianjin. The new aircraft made its first public appearance during a military parade on September 3, and combines an airlift capability with integrated firepower in a single airframe. The manoeuvres performed included including hovering turns and O-shaped landings, which highlighted the aircraft’s applicability in a number of real-world combat operations.

The U.S. Army is working to ensure the completion of a pre-prototype of its next-generation main battle tank, the M1E3 Abrams, by the end of the year. The vehicle’s development is the result of a decision taken by the Army in 2023 to terminate plans for further incremental upgrades to the M1A2 Abrams, and instead pursue much more revolutionary and far reaching design changes.

The Russian Aerospace Forces have for the first time released footage showing the internal weapons bay of the service’s new Su-57 fifth generation fighter, the first full strength battalion of which was formed in 2024. Like all fifth generation fighters, the aircraft was designed to carry its full armaments suite internally for the vast majority of missions in order to preserve its radar cross section reducing stealth profile, and thus significantly increase its survivability against beyond visual range attacks.

The Russian Aerospace Forces have launched their largest bombing campaign on record against Ukraine, according to a report by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The attacks were launched on October 17, and included 109 airstrikes across Ukrainian territory. The bombing was reportedly conducted in parallel to the launch of 6,024 loitering munitions, and escalated shelling including 4,941 separate attacks against Ukrainian military positions and infrastructure.

The United States is releasing and repatriating the two survivors of a suspected drug smuggling submersible vessel that was destroyed Thursday in the Caribbean, President Donald Trump announced on Saturday. The two people are currently being held on a Navy vessel in the Caribbean after the military recovered them from the site of the airstrike. 
The two will be released back to their home countries, Ecuador and Colombia, respectively, rather than remain in American custody or prosecuted by the U.S. government.

California is closing a large stretch of Interstate 5 near Camp Pendleton today after the Marine Corps confirmed it would be conducting an artillery live-fire event over the freeway.
The state announced the four-hour closure Saturday morning, citing “extreme life safety risk and distraction to drivers, including sudden unexpected and loud explosions,” from the Marine Corps’ event today as part of its 250th birthday celebration.
