The Army wants leaders and on-base law enforcement to act with more urgency when a soldier goes missing. The service released rules last week that set immediate deadlines for informing family members and for bringing in local police when a soldier cannot be located.
Family members will now have to be notified within eight hours, and local police within three.
Army Secretary Dan Driscoll issued the rules in a policy directive last week.

Security Forces Airman Brandon Lovan was killed while on duty at F.E. Warren Air Force Base, Wyoming, on July 20, 2025. Preliminary reports from airmen stationed at the base attributed Lovan’s death to an uncommanded discharge from an Air Force-issued M18 pistol. In response to these reports, Global Strike Command and the entire Air Force conducted inspections of all M18 pistols in service.

The Marine Corps’ top officer and top enlisted Marine stood in full dress blues in the pouring rain to wish the service a happy 250th birthday. 
Over the weekend, the Marine Corps released its official message for the service’s 250th birthday later this month.
