How is the war in Ukraine changing the way Britain’s future Army leaders are trained?
Fresh from two years fighting on the frontline, a Ukrainian platoon commander has been observing a Royal Military Academy Sandhurst exercise to assess how the British Army is adapting to lessons from the conflict.
On Salisbury Plain, nearly 400 officer cadets are facing a more modern battlefield, with a focus on L-shaped trenches, concealment and drone warfare. Gurkhas armed with FPV drones are keeping them under constant threat, testing their decision-making under extreme fatigue.
It’s the first major change to the drills in decades – but Ukrainian observer ‘Zero’ believes the pressure needs to go even further, with cadets required to better understand the constant threat from above.
