Gurkhas are among the world’s most formidable fighting forces. Around 4,000 currently serve in the British Army, playing a vital role in its strength and legacy.
But earning a place is no easy feat. With one of the toughest selection processes on earth, only a small number of candidates succeed each year. For many hopeful recruits in Nepal, the journey to becoming a Gurkha is a battle long before it begins.
With demand so high, some fall victim to scams—false promises of guaranteed selection in exchange for money. Standing firmly against this are the “Galawalas” — former Gurkha soldiers turned recruiting mentors — determined to ensure the process remains fair, transparent, and free from corruption.
This documentary follows their journey across Nepal as they search for the next generation of Gurkhas. Traveling through remote villages and rugged terrain, they spread a crucial message: no amount of money can buy a place in the British Army.
Along the way, we meet aspiring recruits pushing themselves to the limit, families placing their hopes on success, and communities shaped by the Gurkha legacy. From intense physical preparation to personal stories of resilience, this is a rare look at the road to becoming one of the world’s elite soldiers.
