A New Era of Air Warfare? RAF Chief Issues Stark Warning
In a powerful speech at the RUSI Combat Air Conference, the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal Harv Smyth, warned that the world has entered a new era of aerial threats – where RAF bases themselves are once again targets of attack.
Referencing a recent drone strike on a hangar at RAF Akrotiri in Cyprus, Smyth said: “Welcome to the new era where RAF bases are once again attacked from the air.” He stressed that gaining control of the skies is now harder to achieve and easier to lose than at any time in modern history.
In this speech titled Smyth highlighted how air superiority remains the foundation of all military operations – echoing the strategy used in World War II when Allied air power helped turn the tide in North Africa.
