Israel launched a ground campaign into southern Lebanon to push Hezbollah fighters back while Iran has reportedly just fired off a barrage of ballistic missiles at Israel in retaliation. As war escalates in the middle east I’ll do my best to give you the information you need to arm yourself with in order to better understand what we might be observing and where we could be headed in the future.

Behind me is a live conflict map of the border between Israel and Lebanon, this open source intelligence tools helps us connect reports from news agencies and government officials to geolated specific sites on the map. As you can see, Most of the blue markers are towns that Israel has advised to evacuate which gives us some indication of where the next phase of this war will be fought. It’s my goal to help clear up some of the fog of war that we’re witnessing right now.
On September 30th 2024 Israeli Special Forces launched targeted raids directly across the border. Their objective is to pave the way for the larger ground campaign that will be made up of conventional forces. The scale of the assault is actually larger than that makes it sound though. According to the IDF they’ve committed one whole army division which numbers 10,000 soldiers. The term special forces in Israel can mean their well trained commandos who number in the many thousands, the term in the IDF and the way its being reported in the mainstream media is a little differently than it is used in the US military. Israel has called up 4 reserve brigades each with 2,000 soldiers and up to 100 tanks
