Iran Hits Back in Gulf State Strikes: Iran launched another wave of missile and drone attacks overnight into July 18, striking Kuwait, Jordan, Bahrain, and Saudi Arabia. The attacks expanded on the regime’s existing retaliatory campaign against the United States, which also confirmed it had completed a seventh consecutive night of strikes against targets inside Iran.

The overnight strikes caused the most substantial confirmed damage in Kuwait yet, with authorities having confirmed fires, injuries, and damage to oil, electricity, and water infrastructure.

Washington, D.C. — In a significant win for the Department of Defense, a federal appeals court ruled Thursday that the Pentagon may continue requiring government escorts for journalists inside the building while a high-profile lawsuit over press access proceeds.
The U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit issued a 2-1 decision staying a lower court’s block on the escort policy, siding with the Trump administration’s national security arguments. The ruling temporarily overturns U.S. District Judge Paul L.

Two U.S. service members were killed Friday in an Iranian attack on a base in Jordan, U.S. Central Command announced.
A third service member is missing, CENTCOM said, and four others were injured.
The attack was part of a wave of Iranian drone and ballistic missile strikes on American positions around the Middle East as renewed fighting in the war continues.
CENTCOM did not say what base in Jordan was hit. Iranian media reports that its forces targeted the Al-Azraq Base in Jordan.

TAMPA, Fla. — On July 17, two U.S. service members in Jordan were killed in action as U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) and partner forces defended against Iranian ballistic missile and drone attacks. Additionally, one service member is currently missing in action. Four American service members were medically evacuated to Jordanian hospitals. They have since been discharged. Other personnel who were evaluated for minor injuries have returned to duty.

Iran Is Feeling the Pressure – In Lots Of Ways: The United States completed its seventh round of consecutive daily strikes against Iran early on Saturday, July 18, as President Donald Trump continued to pile pressure on Tehran to come back to the negotiating table. U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said that the latest operation targeted Iranian surveillance sites and military logistics, as well as underground weapons storage facilities and maritime capabilities that could assist the regime in disrupting traffic through the Strait of Hormuz.

Ukrainian drones struck Russia’s Engels-2 air base, located in Saratov Oblast, according to reports in Russian and Ukrainian media. The base hosts Russia’s 184th Heavy Bomber Aviation Regiment as well as the 121st Guards Heavy Bomber Aviation Regiment. Residents of Saratov and Engels, which are close to the air base, are said to have reported the sounds of many low-flying drones followed by explosions, but Russian authorities have seemingly not confirmed the strikes on the base.

With no end in sight to the ongoing war in Iran, the conflict between Washington and Tehran seems to have entered a new and more dangerous phase of fighting. What began as a campaign centered on military targets and freedom of navigation has evolved into expanded strikes, retaliation felt across the Gulf, and growing concern that the fighting could escalate into a larger conflagration.
