Kyiv’s military position remains difficult, but it is not a situation of collapse. Russia continues to grind forward in parts of Ukraine’s Donetsk region while also maintaining pressure along several sectors of the front. Ukrainian forces have become increasingly dependent on drones, long-range strikes, and better use of technology to offset shortages of infantry and ammunition. But at the political level, the biggest story over the past few weeks has not been the battlefield itself, but an unusually turbulent reframing of Ukraine’s civilians and military leadership.

As the war in Iran continues, a new pattern has emerged, one that eschews large-scale strikes in favor of more sustained, tit-for-tat exchanges involving Iran, the United States, Israel, and Tehran’s regional allies — with no sign of either side backing down. While the front lines remain centered on Iran, the fighting has increasingly spilled across the Middle East, drawing in groups like the Houthis and raising serious concerns about global energy supplies, shipping, and the risk of a broader conflagration in the Middle East spiraling out of control.

Chinese President and Chairman of the Central Military Commission Xi Jinping has called on the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) to accelerate the military application of artificial intelligence, urging the armed forces to strengthen the development of an “intelligent military system” as part of a broader effort to transform China’s armed forces into a world-class fighting force.

Their impact is debated endlessly, sometimes for centuries, as they take on new life with new generations of historians and swindlers alike.

The Chinese People’s Liberation Army Air Force’s deployment of J-20 fighters to Hotan Air Base has significantly shifted the balance of power in the air across the Line of Actual Control between Chinese and Indian forces, and for the first time left Indian forces with the imminent possibility of facing advanced fifth generation combat jets in the event of a conflict. The base is located just 400 kilometres away from Indian forces, while the J-20 has a combat radius of approximately 2,000 kilometres and advanced penetration strike capabilities rivalled only by those of the American F-35.
