Bell’s V-280 Valor-based win for the Future Long-Range Assault Aircraft — a high-speed replacement for many U.S. Army Black Hawks and possibly more — was a massive loss for the competing Sikorsky-Boeing team. A protest of that award was all but certain and one was indeed put forth. Now that protest has been resolved unfavorably for Sikorsky and Boeing and their SB>1 Defiant-based design.

On Wednesday, Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov accused the U.S. of “playing with fire” and engaging in a hot “hybrid war” with Russia and blamed Washington for increasing nuclear tensions.
Ryabkov’s comments came hours after Russia declared that it had deployed nuclear-capable missiles in Belarus along NATO’s border. Moscow also announced that it had refitted Belarussian jets with the capability to carry and drop nuclear bombs. The Kremlin spokesman then went on to blame the U.S.

Though far from wreaking the level of devastation of Russian attacks on its soil, Ukraine continues to strike back across the border. Russian governors say their regions came under attack by Ukrainian fires, drones, and a partisan group aligned with Kyiv.
Belgorod Oblast has come under attack several times this week, Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov said on his Telegram channel.
“An unmanned aerial vehicle was shot down by an air defense system in the Valuysky urban district,” he wrote Thursday. “There were no casualties or damage, its remains fell into the field.

On Thursday, a senior Ukrainian Air Force commander said Ukraine urgently needs F-16 fighters, which he described as “four to five times” more effective than the Soviet-era jets it currently uses.
Serhiy Holubtsov, one of the top Air Force commanders, said that while the Allies’ donations of Soviet-era MiG-29 fighters were an “important step,” the planes did not fully meet Ukraine’s needs on the battlefield.

On Thursday, the Ukrainian state arms manufacturer announced that it would begin producing 125mm cartridges for Soviet-era tanks in collaboration with the Polish arms manufacturer Poland Grupa Zbrojeniowa (PGZ).
As Ukraine fights a full-scale invasion by Russian soldiers that began more than 13 months ago, Ukroboronprom announced that Poland would become the second NATO member to aid Ukraine in producing armaments.
“In accordance with the agreement, new production lines are planned to manufacture large quantities of 125mm tank gun ammunition,” the company said in a statement.

The Government has today presented investment proposals that will be included in its Spring Amending Budget. The proposals aim to create the conditions for the continued growth of Sweden’s military defense and to make preparations for NATO membership. 
An increase in appropriations totaling SEK 660 million is proposed in the Spring Amending Budget for 2023. In addition, it is proposed to increase the authorization of the Swedish Armed Forces to place orders by SEK 16.78 billion.
The defense and security of Sweden are an absolute priority for the Government.

This was certainly one hell of a hotel wake-up call. 
Around 10 p.m. on April 4, U.S. Army Special Operations Command soldiers, assisted by personnel from the FBI’s Boston office, entered a downtown Boston hotel as part of a training exercise. Once inside, they raided a room and detained a man inside. As so often happens in training, though, a problem arose: It was the wrong room and the wrong guy.

A joint training exercise gone wrong left an innocent man in handcuffs in the bathroom of a hotel in Boston earlier this week. The practice raid, carried out by the members of the FBI and U.S. Army special operations forces personnel was supposed to involve the mock capture of a role player, but they barged into the wrong room and interrogated an unsuspecting guest.
The faux raid happened sometime before midnight local time on March 4 at the Revere Hotel in Boston.

“I think that in the future, we will be able to deliver the rest of our MiG-29 aircraft to Ukraine if necessary,” President Andrzej Duda declared during a joint press conference in which Volodymyr Zelensky also participated. 
Duda also announced that Poland had recently delivered four MiG-29 aircraft to Ukraine. He also mentioned the number that is expected to be received soon.
Responding to a question from a Ukrainian journalist, Duda explained in detail the plan used to transfer the post-Soviet jet planes, which had already been done before and which is planned for the future.
