A long column of former Polish PT-91 Twardy tanks, rolling across a training ground somewhere in Ukraine on or before Monday, is a salutary reminder of two important facts.
Despite significant promises to Ukraine of Western-made tanks, upgraded Soviet-style tanks remain by far the most numbers in the Ukrainian arsenal. And it is those tanks that are likely to lead the Kyiv forces’ shift from defense to attack in the coming weeks or months.

It’s often difficult to get a sense of the scale of aircraft when looking at pictures of them in flight. However, when aircraft are assembled together and photographed on the ground it’s possible to get a better sense of their differing sizes. Case in point: Look at the size of the Indonesian Air Force’s Russian-made Sukhoi Flanker fighter jets, seen toward the front of the gaggle of aircraft in the top shot above, compared to nearby F-16s, T-50 Golden Eagles, and other aircraft.

US President Joe Biden’s administration announced Wednesday $325 million in new military aid to Ukraine to support its military in its war against Russia, including additional ammunition for High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS), advanced missiles and anti-tank mines.
It is the 36th security package for Ukraine since the Russian invasion in February 2022, bringing total US military aid to the Kyiv government to more than $35.4 billion at that time.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — The Space Force has begun a campaign of training events to prepare guardians for potential conflicts in space, and the nascent service is taking “baby steps” to increase the number of exercises done each year, Chief of Space Operations Gen. Chance Saltzman said Wednesday.
Known as the Skies exercise series, the live simulation training events are aimed at developing guardians’ command-and-control skills.

The U.S. military is staging forces in case they are needed to evacuate the U.S. embassy in Khartoum, the capital of Sudan, according to the Defense Department.
“The Department of Defense, through U.S. Africa Command, is monitoring the situation in Sudan and conducting prudent planning for various contingencies,” said Air Force Lt. Col.

The U.S. Air Force’s top command in the Middle East released videos yesterday showing two separate encounters between American aircraft and fully-armed Russian Su-35 Flanker-Es over Syria. Both clips look to have been shot through aircraft targeting pods or similar sensor systems, and one gives a particularly high-quality infrared view of the Su-35 in question.
This comes around a month after the head of U.S. Central Command, U.S. Army Gen.

President Vladimir Putin’s announced plan to deploy nuclear weapons in Belarus may pose risks to NATO’s nuclear posture. A similar risk arose in the 1980s when Moscow deployed a new missile aimed at Europe and Japan. So NATO responded by deploying its own missiles. I might consider this option again.
In February 2022, Belarus decided to allow nuclear weapons on its territory, and Putin last month said Russia would introduce them if necessary. 
Some short-range Iskander ballistic missiles were said to be in Belarus, and a nuclear weapons storage facility was said to be ready by July 1.
