The Biden government is about to sign an agreement that would allow General Electric (GE) to manufacture the engines for Indian military aircraft in that country, according to several people informed of the decision.
A deal ending joint production of the engines is expected to be signed and announced by the time President Joe Biden hosts Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi for an official state visit on June 22, the people said on condition of anonymity because the decision has not been made public.

The Air Force is officially on the hunt for its next stealth fighter design and Boeing, Lockheed Martin, and Northrop Grumman aim to deliver.

On March 29, during a House Armed Services Committee hearing, Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) demanded that top Pentagon officials, Joint Chiefs of Staff, Gen. Mark Milley, and Defense Secretary, Lloyd Austin, explain why drag queen story hours were still occurring on U.S. military bases, including at locations in Germany and Nevada, Montana, and Virginia.
“Drag queen story hours is not something that the department funds,” Austin responded to Gatez’s demands.

U.S. Africa Command, or AFRICOM, has launched its second airstrike in Somalia in six days against al-Shabab, a terrorist group that has pledged allegiance to al-Qaida. 
These strikes have occurred as al-Shabab may be taking advantage of a lull in the Somali government’s offensive against the group to reassert its presence in parts of the country.

The Italian parliament has approved construction of the third Type 212 Near Future Submarine (NFS), marking another milestone in the programme.
The Italian Navy is planning to procure four boats under the NFS programme, which passed its critical design review in early 2023.
The first unit was laid down at Fincantieri’s Muggiano shipyard in La Spezia in January 2022 and the boat is expected to be launched in 2026.

The US Department of Defense (DoD) has contracted SpaceX to provide its Starlink satellite communication (satcom) services to Ukraine.
An announcement by the DoD on 1 June stated it had contracted Starlink to provide satcom services to Ukraine as it “constitutes a vital layer in Ukraine’s overall communications network”.

In an ongoing effort to help Texas Governor Greg Abbott secure the Texas border, the governors of Virginia and West Virginia have announced that they will be joining other Republican-led states in sending National Guard troops south to the border.
Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin announced Wednesday morning that he would be deploying 100 of the state’s National Guard troops to assist Abbott’s efforts.

Pending his country’s bid to secure F-16 fighter jets, the President of Ukraine, Volodymr Zelenskyy, asserted that more Patriot air defence systems are needed to “create a sky shield over the European continent.”
“By the time Ukraine receives modern fighter jets from its partners, it must have the means to protect itself from Russian air attack,” the Ministry of Defence (MoD) of Ukraine stated after the country’s head of state addressed media representatives at the second meeting of the European Political Community in Moldova on 1 June.
