With the United States and Iran continuing their standoff over the Strait of Hormuz, there are new reports of disagreements within the upper reaches of the Iranian regime, and questions about who is really in charge in Tehran.

According to Bloomberg News, Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian said on TV this week that he found it “very difficult” to reach the country’s Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei. The president later said the two had recently met for several hours and called it “a very good meeting.” Reuters later confirmed that the two met.

How Iran Strategized Around the U.S. Munitions Shortage – Reports in recent weeks have indicated that the U.S. is facing a munitions shortage after months of war in Iran. The Hill reported this week that this depleted weapons stockpile has begun to undermine U.S. leverage in the war and elsewhere. 

“So, this is a dangerous moment for the United States to have these reduced stockpiles of key weapons at a time when these threats are all real,” Leon Panetta, a former congressman, defense secretary, and CIA director, told The Hill.
