France has tested the VSR700 vertical takeoff and landing unmanned aerial system demonstrator for the first time, marking a key milestone in developing the country’s next-generation maritime drone.
Aircraft manufacturer Airbus and the Direction Générale de l’Armement (DGA) jointly conducted the test this month, Airbus said in a press release on May 15.
The VSR700 UAS is a demonstrator of the future maritime drone program “SDAM” of the French Navy, an acronym for “Système de Drone Aérien pour la Marine.

An online fundraiser has collected more than $2.4 million in donations to pay the legal expenses for Daniel Penny, a Marine veteran charged with manslaughter for the death of Jordan Neely, an unhoused man, in a widely publicized incident aboard a New York City subway train.
On Monday, the Ukrainian army celebrated the recent gains around Bakhmut as its first successful counterattack in the battle against Russian forces fighting for control of the eastern city.
But Kyiv also said that the situation in Bakhmut was difficult. She warned that Moscow had not changed its goal of capturing the city and was sending stormtroopers to the outskirts of Bakhmut.
The Ukrainian military said last week it had begun pushing back Russian forces in and around Bakhmut after months of heavy fighting, and Moscow acknowledged its forces had fallen back north of the city.

In an air defense response that lit up the night sky over Kyiv, Ukrainian officials say they downed all 18 missiles fired, including six Kh-47 Kinzhal air-launched ballistic missiles, nine Kalibr sea-launched cruise missiles and three ground-launched missiles, as well as several drones. The Russian Defense Ministry (MoD) meanwhile claimed that a Kinzhal struck one of two U.S.-provided MIM-104 Patriot missile systems in the latest attack against that air defense system.
U.S. Space Command last year created a position specifically dedicated to information warfare, the only such combatant command to do so.
The position, deputy operations (J3) for information warfare, was created on April 7, 2022, according to a spokesperson, to integrate and synchronize information forces such as cyber and information operations withing the command.
While other combatant commands may not have created an analogous position in name alone, some created positions with similar roles.
