Military timepieces are, first and foremost, tools. From professional dive watches to nearly bullet-proof G Shocks, function must come before form on the battlefield. However, one notable watch was inspired by a groundbreaking military invention and went on to become an international fashion icon. We’re talking, of course, about the Cartier Tank.

Like the tracked, armored vehicle for which it’s named, the Cartier Tank traces its origin back to WWI.

A lot was asked of British soldiers during World War II, and they would happily oblige if they were given the right tools for the job – and sometimes they would still oblige even if they weren’t. But having so much to do on long missions away from supply centers meant that those tools had to be lightweight, portable, and hopefully, have many uses. 
One of the tools that meet all those criteria are toggle ropes, a relatively short length of rope, around six feet long, with a toggle at one end and an eyelet on the other.

The Marine Corps on Friday officially activated its newest command to synchronize and integrate information capabilities with traditional military operations.
The Marine Corps Information Command (MCIC) is designed to more tightly link the service’s information forces – including cyber, intelligence and space – in theater with the broader joint force across the globe.
In a ceremony at Fort Meade, the Marine Corps activated the command, which will be led by Maj. Gen. Ryan Heritage, the commander of Marine Corps Forces Cyberspace Command and Marine Corps Forces Space Command.

Great Britain has become the first country to announce it is providing Ukraine with Western-made main battle tanks, for which the Ukrainians have pleaded since Russia launched a full-scale invasion of their country nearly a year ago.
The British plan on sending a total of 14 Challenger 2 tanks to Ukraine along with 30 AS90 self-propelled guns in the coming weeks, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s office announced on Saturday.

Future soldier systems
Future soldier systems can be as simple as cabling systems that can be woven into a uniform. Lightweight electronics and flexible cabling allow for normal movement while maintaining real-time data transfer.

Rheinmetall has laid the foundation stone for its new factory in Várpalota, Hungary, to support the production of ammunition for various land-based military platforms.
The ammunition production at this unit will be carried out by the joint venture company Rheinmetall Hungary Munitions, in collaboration with the Hungarian state.
Initially, the new factory will manufacture 30mm-medium-calibre ammunition for the Lynx infantry fighting vehicles, which are presently being produced by Rheinmetall at its Zalaegerszeg facility.

This work is expected to commence from 2024.
