The US Army Pacific (USARPAC) and the Philippine Army (PA) are conducting the annual bilateral training exercise, Salaknib 2023 (SN23).
An opening ceremony was held in Fort Magsaysay, Nueva Ecija. The first iteration of the exercise was held in 2016.
The army-to-army exercise will see participation from approximately 3,000 troops from the USARPAC’s 25th Infantry Division (25ID) and the PA’s 5th Infantry Division, 7th Infantry Division, and 1st Brigade Combat Team.

Japan’s Acquisition, Technology & Logistics Agency (ATLA) expects the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) to induct the upgraded ship-launched variant of the Type 12 surface-to-surface missile (SSM) by 2026, ATLA told Janes at the DSEI Japan 2023 show in Chiba.

Japan’s IHI Corporation and the UK’s Rolls-Royce have initiated development of the engine that will power the proposed future fighter aircraft under the Global Combat Air Programme (GCAP).
Atsushi Sato, vice-president of IHI’s aero-engine, space, and defence businesses, told Janes at the DSEI Japan 2023 exhibition in Chiba that the two companies are starting to exchange personnel and technologies following the signing of a joint development agreement in December 2021.

The Indian Ministry of Defence (MoD) has announced the successful completion of two consecutive flight tests of the very short-range air defence system (VSHORADS).
The test was carried out by India’s Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) from the Integrated Test Range off the coast of Odisha in Chandipur, India, on 14 March.
As part of the tests, VSHORADS were fired from a ground-based portable launcher system to strike a high-speed uncrewed aerial target that was acting as an approaching and receding aircraft.
