The U.S. Navy wants to explore the idea of using small uncrewed surface vessels, or USVs, armed with Stinger missiles as a relatively low-cost additional layer of defense against various threats in the air and on the surface of the water. The service says it is particularly interested in the possibility of using the drone boats to help protect critical, but ever-more-vulnerable logistics vessels, as well as Marine contingents during future expeditionary and distributed operations.

As the F-35 takes hold in the US and allied military services, the Pentagon plans to use the aircraft for at least another 45 years. This is due to its proven ability to incorporate improvements to detection, computing, weapon launching, and targeting capabilities with software updates.
It is likely that this process will take place much more quickly and that it will no longer be necessary to separate software increments, or “drops,” by years.
The F-35 is an upgrades machine.

The U.S. government is seeing a major uptick in activity around the globe from people and organizations who are carrying out cyberattacks with the aim of helping their countries but are not working at the behest of governments, according to senior defense officials.
These digital fighters have been dubbed “patriotic hackers.”

Maj. Gen. Ryan Heritage was appointed to be the next deputy commandant for information, according to a Pentagon announcement Friday.
Heritage, who will pin on his third star, is currently the commander of Marne Corps Forces Cyberspace Command.
In January, he also assumed command of the Marine Corps Information Command (MCIC), which is designed to more tightly link the service’s information forces — including cyber, intelligence and space — in theater with the broader joint force across the globe.
Heritage succeeds Lt. Gen. Matthew Glavy, who has held the post since the summer of 2021.
