On November 9, 2022, two U.S. Air Force Special Operations Command MC-130J aircraft executed the first live fire demonstration of deploying a palletized Joint Air-to-Surface Standoff Missile (JASSM) over the North Atlantic Ocean near Norway’s Andøya Space Defense Range. After being extracted from the C-130’s cargo bay by parachute, the missile shed its pallet, free-falling until its motor ignited. The JASSM then cruised low across the ocean surface at high speed along a pre-designated course until a controlled crash into the ocean was initiated.

The Russian air force may have suffered one of its worst days since the Ukrainian war began. Some reports claim that four of its aircraft were shot down on Russian soil, which would deal a major blow to Ukraine.

According to information published by the Tass agency on May 13, the Severnaya Verf shipyard has delivered the last Merkury missile corvette of Project 20380 to the Russian Navy.
The delivery team and naval personnel completed rigorous tests and inspections of the warship’s systems, weaponry, and specialized equipment, preparing the Merkury for official delivery.
In a nod to Russian naval history, Navy Commander-in-Chief Admiral Yevmenov ordered the corvette to be named Merkury. It is a tribute to the historic combat sailing ship that symbolizes the bravery and expertise of Russian sailors.
