BLACK ROCK CAMP, Fiji — The Fiji Military Forces on Friday welcomed Lloyd Austin as the first-ever U.S Secretary of Defense to visit the island nation, in an hours-long ceremony that involved the presentation of a roasted hog and concluded with a rugby game.

The last soldier to board the final U.S. military plane out of Afghanistan was on track to be named a four-star general and command U.S. Army Europe-Africa, but his name has now been held back from a promotion.
Army Lt. Gen. Christopher T. Donahue’s promotion appeared on a list of generals released by the Pentagon last week who had been nominated by the President to lead key military commands. U.S. troops who have taken part in operations to counter Houthi rebels in Yemen have been authorized to receive the Global War on Terrorism Service and Expeditionary Medals, Pentagon spokesman Joshua Wick told Task & Purpose on Friday.

The Department of the Navy is issuing a request for solutions from industry to bring forth technologies that could better connect the U.S. military’s next-generation drones known as collaborative combat aircraft (CCA), according to an announcement posted Friday.
