Indonesian Defence Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin has confirmed that the ministry has decided to procure 42 Chinese J-10C ‘4+ generation’ fighter aircraft under a deal valued at over $9 billion. “They will be flying over Jakarta soon,” Sjamsoeddin told reporters, indicating that a contract may have already been signed. The British Royal Navy and the Indian Air Force have held a series of simulated air-to-air combat exercises over the Arabian Sea, after the British aircraft carrier HMS Prince of Wales led a strike group to visit the South Asian state. The air-to-air engagements were held at the end of Exercise Konkan 2025, a bilateral training series intended to strengthen maritime cooperation. The Indian Air Force deployed eight Su-30MKI fighters, four Jaguar attack jets, and an A-50 AEW&C system, which engaged six F-35B fighters that operated from the carrier.
The Chinese merchant fleet has made its first ever container shipment to Europe via the Northern Sea Route, which passes through the Russian Arctic. The transit was facilitated with support from Russia’s nuclear icebreaker fleet, and nearly halved the shipping time compared to southern routes passing through the Malacca Strait and Suez Canal. The 25,000 ton vessel arrived at the port of Felixstowe, United Kingdom, after a 20 day transit from China’s Ningbo, and is scheduled to subsequently call at the European hubs of Rotterdam and Hamburg before going on to St. Petersburg.
Senior officials on Wednesday provided insight into how the Army’s primary arm for countering foreign intelligence threats works to safeguard products made by the defense industrial base.
“We want to be [on the] left of modernization. We want to be protecting [any] new capability left of delivery, because that’s where, of course, the adversaries try to get them,” Lt. Gen. Tony Hale, deputy chief of staff for intelligence, G2, told reporters.
At least 51 people have been rescued by the Coast Guard and Alaska Army and Air National Guard units after the remnants of Typhoon Halong struck western Alaska over the weekend, officials said.
The storm received little attention outside the state, but left a trail of devastation through several coastal villages whose populations are mostly Alaskan natives. The flooding has torn buildings, including some homes, from their foundations and floated them away.
The rescues have taken place in the communities of Kipnuk and Kwigillingok, an Alaska National Guard news release says.
A recent Army contracting notice looks at first glance more likely to be from a whimsical chocolate factory than a major weapons arsenal that produces battlefield-ready incendiary munitions. The contract, filed by officials at Pine Bluff Arsenal, Arkansas, which builds munitions for all military branches, is looking for bids on 65,000 pounds of powdered sugar for “grenades and smoke pots, according to federal contracting documents.
As the Army continues efforts to strengthen operations in the space domain, the service will begin prioritizing new counterspace capabilities in its budget requests beginning in fiscal 2027, according to a senior official.
“This year during program budget review, we included counterspace capabilities for the first time in our strategic priority list,” Col. Peter Atkinson, principal space advisor at the Department of the Army, said Wednesday during the annual AUSA conference.
A team of four Marines were caught in the middle of a six-mile track. They carried radios, and they knew there was no turning back.
But by the end of a first-of-its kind contest last month at Camp Pendleton, a team of communications specialists from the headquarters regiment of 1st Marine Logistics Group emerged from among 15 squads to win the inaugural Marine Corps-wide field communications competition.
They’d won — and been — Thunderstruck.
