A week after the Department of Veterans Affairs published an interim final rule that would have lowered disability compensation for millions of military veterans, the VA announced Thursday it is rescinding it.
The interim final rule, “Evaluative Rating: Impact of Medication,” would have allowed the VA, effective immediately, to rate veterans based on how they function with medication and treatment, instead of how their condition actually affects them.
Before the rule was removed from the Federal Register, more than 19,000 comments from veterans and advocates had been submitted.

The Department of Veterans Affairs is formally rescinding a rule that would have impacted how the agency evaluates disability benefits, after a week of outcry from veterans groups, according to a Federal Register notice document.
Under the federal rule published by the VA on Feb. 17, evaluators would have been directed to rate veterans’ disabilities based on the effects of medication and how treatment improves their quality of life.

AI excels at absorbing guidance, reorganizing complex material, and producing clear strategic language at speed. This feels like a qualitative advance, creating the impression that planning itself has become easier. But this impression misleads.

What changes when China’s leader finally states a reserve currency ambition explicitly? Xi Jinping has now done so, calling for the renminbi to attain global reserve currency status, not in a speech to foreign investors or at an international summit, but in Qiushi, the Chinese Communist Party’s flagship ideological journal.The language, drawn from a speech Xi delivered to senior regional officials in 2024, was published only recently. A private Chinese satellite firm has released satellite images of 11 F-22 Raptor fifth generation fighters at the Ovda Air Base in Israel. A total of 12 F-22s were photographed while transiting the United Kingdom, suggesting one may not have headed to Israel, or may have been in flight at the time the images were taken. Located in the very south of Israel in the southern Negev Desert, around 40 kilometres north of Eilat, the facility is most prominent for its former hosting of aggressor squadrons for training, and current hosting of Arrow anti-ballistic missile systems.

Even as modern conflicts show the vulnerabilities of traditional battlefield medical care, American medics are still relying on “analog, paper-based” triage systems to assess injured troops, according to the Defense Innovation Unit.
