Have you heard the phrase “Long War”?
It’s what Ukraine is fighting right now – a conflict measured not in days or months, but years.
A long war doesn’t just test armies. It tests economies, industry, infrastructure, healthcare systems and public resilience. And it goes far beyond whatever forces and equipment a country has “on the shelf”.
So the big question is: how would the UK fare in a war like that?
In this video, we hear from General Sir Richard Barrons, former head of Joint Forces Command, with nearly 40 years of military experience and a key contributor to the Strategic Defence Review – a 140-page report outlining the challenges facing UK defence and national security.
His conclusion is stark: the UK is only about a quarter of the way ready for a long, grinding conflict.
