The largest military parachute drop in the UK in over a decade is underway.
More than 270 paratroopers from 16 Air Assault Brigade take to the skies aboard RAF A400M aircraft, jumping onto Salisbury Plain in a major joint airborne operation with the Royal Air Force.
This large-scale exercise showcases the UK’s rapid response capability, combining elite airborne infantry with the RAF’s Air Mobility Force to deploy troops, equipment, and supplies at speed. Alongside the soldiers, a further aircraft delivers 24 tonnes of vital equipment, ensuring forces can fight and sustain themselves immediately after landing.
The operation forms part of a Joint Airborne Task Force (JATF) proof of concept, designed to respond to global crises — from humanitarian emergencies to high-intensity conflict.
After landing, troops rapidly move off the drop zone to secure positions and prepare for follow-on operations.
