With its many missions, the U.S. Army is hard-pressed to meet the requirements of the National Defense Strategy at its current authorized end strength. A significant part of the problem is that the Army is awash in staff, many of which did not exist during World War II or even in the 1990s. After 9/11, the Army Staff grew by 60 percent, while headquarters and staffs Army-wide ballooned. All of these headquarters consume resources withheld from the warfighting Army.
The 82nd Airborne Division soldier who turned himself in at the U.S.-Canadian border last week after deserting 16 years prior pleaded guilty to the crime.
According to court records shared by the Army Judge Advocate General’s Corps, Sgt. Christopher M. Vassey, 38, entered his guilty plea on Thursday, Dec. 12. He faces one charge of violating 10 U.S. Code § 885 – Art. 85, or desertion.
Vassey surrendered to authorities at the Rainbow Bridge border crossing near Niagra Falls in New York on Dec. 3.
The Army-Navy Game is always a who’s who of the military world, and the 125th running presented by USAA is no exception. President-elect Trump, Vice President-elect J.D. Vance, and nominee for Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth waved to the crowds from their suite as onlookers chanted “U.S.A, U.S.A!” around them. Joining Trump and Vance in their suite is a “star-studded” list of political insiders, reportedly including Elon Musk, John Thune, Tulsi Gabbard, Ron DeSantis, and others.
In addition to the president-elect’s closest advisors, Marine veteran Daniel Penny is in attendance.
The Defense Department doesn’t know who has been flying drones recently near its military installations in New Jersey, and the Pentagon is “frustrated” by this type of activity, according to a senior official.
In recent days and weeks, there have been thousands of reports and tips about drone sightings in New Jersey as well as other states. Law enforcement agencies have been investigating the reports. In many cases officials believe that manned aircraft were misidentified as unmanned aerial systems.
A more globally connected world and emerging technology that is changing the face of warfare have caused the U.S. military to make shifts in its strategy, and that has filtered down to the Army and Navy service academies — a pipeline for the American armed forces’ officer corps.
“Individuals coming in are a lot more worldly,” Naval Academy Superintendent Vice Adm. Yvette M. Davids said. “They’re more connected and they understand this is a big world, but how do they fit into this world? It’s intriguing to them.
At this year’s Army-Navy football game at Northwest Stadium in Maryland on Saturday, a crew of West Point cadets will man a tank on the field. But it’s not just any tank.
This one isn’t in the vanguard of a major land invasion or providing mobile fire support for advancing infantry. Instead, with the help of a scuba air tank, it launches t-shirts into roaring crowds at the service academy’s annual football game.
But there’s a catch: The tank only fires when the Army football team, the Black Knights, score a touchdown.

Concerning stories about West Point don’t happen often, but when they do, they’re always a doozy and USMA really stepped in it this time and blew up the internet. They accuse the MacArthur Society (and thus STARRS) of only publishing bad stories, but USMA does just fine creating bad stories all by themselves. We just observe and report what they do.
ProPublica, a left-wing media outlet (funded by Soros) was trying to find angles to torpedo Pete Hegseth’s nomination for SECDEF.
