The Department of Defense will host a conference in June to look at ways that the U.S. military can leverage generative artificial intelligence for “decision support and superiority.” But the Pentagon is well aware of the technology’s current shortcomings, according to Deputy CTO for Critical Technologies Maynard Holliday.
Generative AI has made headlines recently with the emergence of ChatGPT and other capabilities that can generate new content, such as text or images, based on their training, which can include the use of large language models.

The Ukrainian military will launch a long-awaited counterattack “very soon,” one of the top brass said on Thursday, as Russia loses momentum in Bakhmut.
Oleksandr Syrskyi, the Ukrainian ground forces commander, indicated that a counteroffensive would soon hit the fatigued Russian forces in Bakhmut. Russian mercenaries from the Wagner Group are “losing considerable strength and running out of steam,” Syrskyi said on social media.
“Very soon we will seize this opportunity, as we have done in the past year in Kyiv, Kharkiv, Balakliya, and Kupiansk,” he said.

The Missile Defense Agency is looking at how non-kinetic capabilities like electronic warfare, directed energy and cybersecurity can be incorporated into its defense system to address emerging threats, MDA Director Vice Adm. Jon Hill said Friday.
The MDA is in charge of developing and deploying a layered system to defend the United States and its territories against missile threats, including kinetic interceptors and ground- and space-based radars.

Experts within the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Intelligence and Security and Office of the Director of National Intelligence are collaboratively reviewing the technical, governance and policy implications — among other emerging challenges — associated with automatically moving authorized data and resources between private or public clouds and to tactical edge devices, depending on government needs.

State media reports that a fire has broken out inside a Russian factory that makes equipment for the Russian Army.
Seven people have been rescued from a burning building, and firefighters are still searching for the fire’s origin at the Yaroslavl Motor Plant in Yaroslavl (Russia), which is described on its website as one of the largest Russian automobile production companies: multipurpose diesel engines, clutches, gearboxes, and spare parts.
The state news agency TASS quoted the Russian Emergencies Ministry saying firefighters were alerted to the fire at 1:30 p.m. local time.

Russia is unable to satisfy its arms delivery promises to India because of the crisis in Ukraine, the Indian Air Force (IAF) has claimed, putting potential pressure on New Delhi’s relationship with its major defense supplier as Moscow strives to bolster weapons production.
According to a report from an Indian legislative committee, an IAF representative stated that owing to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, a “big rendition” from Moscow “was not going to take place.
