Ahead of the looming Ukrainian counteroffensive that could very well drive through the occupied portions of Zaporizhzhia Oblast, the Russians have been reinforcing their military presence at Europe’s largest nuclear power plant, according to British military intelligence.
While that assessment downplays concerns about a radioactive catastrophe at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant as a result of any fighting on the premises, combat there in March 2022 sparked global concerns that such an event could take place.

The Navy’s leading high-performance computing services and support provider officially added a powerful new machine to its arsenal: a supercomputer named Nautilus.
With this new addition unveiled this week, Defense Department scientists and engineers now have a total of six supercomputers and associated, advanced resources to access via the Navy DOD Supercomputing Resource Center, or DSRC. It’s funded through the department’s High-Performance Computing Modernization Program (HPCMP).

According to the Army’s director of future vertical transport modernization, the Army has begun a study on a future heavy vertical transport aircraft.
Due to conclude this summer, the study is being carried out by a company contracted by the Army and is expected to determine how the capacity will be addressed and provide a potential timetable.

It is a recurring theme for the French leader, presenting both a challenge to his European compatriots and an opportunity for the United States.

A Chinese-made amphibious assault ship ordered by Thailand has arrived at its southern home port a week after being officially handed over to its new owner at Chinese shipyards.
The Type 071E landing platform HTMS Chang docked at Chuk Samet Pier on April 25 in Chonburi Province, southern Thailand, close to Sattahip Naval Base.
The vessel had left the Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding facility in Shanghai on April 18, where the state-owned China State Shipbuilding Corp built it. It traveled to Thailand via the Taiwan Strait.

The number of service members who have faced courts-martial for sexual assault charges has dropped precipitously over the past decade, according to the Defense Department’s latest report about sexual assault in the military.
In 2013, commanders preferred charges for 71% of cases in which evidence supported charging a service member with sexual assault, the report found. That figure fell to 37% of such cases last year.

The only Russian aircraft carrier, Admiral Kuznetsov, undergoes a deep renovation before joining the combat fleet in 2024.

In February 2023, Admiral Kuznetsov left drydock near Murmansk on Russia’s Arctic coast. The ship is expected to enter service in 2024.
The carrier has experienced a number of accidents during her overhaul, including fires and sinking in dry dock. Admiral Kuznetsov is being equipped with advanced air defense systems, such as the Pantsir-M, and a new integrated air defense control system.

The Russian military has launched a video campaign to attract more professional soldiers to Ukraine.
