In Western military thinking, air superiority has long been considered the key to victory. However, achieving complete dominance of the skies not only comes with excessively high costs but is also unrealistic, especially in a near-peer fight. It’s time to reconsider this assumption and focus on building an air force that can support the fight even when the skies are contested. As two Finnish air defense officers, we are more closely acquainted with this than most, sharing as we do a 1,300-kilometer-long border with Russia.

Two reports released recently by the Air Force detail the terrible, horrible, no-good very bad week of an Air Force CV-22 Osprey squadron at Cannon Air Force Base last year. In the span of five days, the 20th Special Operations Squadron at Cannon, New Mexico, which flies the Osprey, suffered two mishaps involving three of its CV-22 fleet, one a parking accident on the ground, the other a freak accidental engine-shutdown that caused one of the $92 million aircraft to crash on a remote range.
The mishaps had not been previously disclosed. There were no fatalities in either event.

One military family in New York has reason to believe anything is paws-ible after being reunited with a long-lost family member.
In 2022, Brandy Ross got news that every dog owner dreads – their beloved family dog, Bear, had gone missing after being left with a pet sitter.
“Like, that was the hardest part … going home after I had left him with the sitter and then coming home to not having my dog,” Ross told KRDO.
Weeks went by and despite sharing online and searching the area, Bear never came home.

An Alaska soldier was arrested last month on charges related to possessing child sexual abuse material and allegedly creating thousands of those images using artificial intelligence. There is no federal or military law that outright criminalizes the use of AI to create explicit materials but military justice system lawyers say that the Department of Defense has other methods to hold service members accountable.

This month, the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency is set to launch a new opportunity valued at upwards of $700 million — which, according to Vice Adm. Frank Whitworth, will mark the U.S. government’s largest-ever request for proposals for data-labeling products to advance artificial intelligence capabilities and associated anomaly-detecting models.
“This represents a significant investment in computer vision, machine learning and AI,” Whitworth, the agency’s director, told reporters Friday at a roundtable hosted by the Defense Writers Group.

Two Marines with the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit who are currently embarked on the amphibious assault ship USS Wasp were assaulted on Sunday while the ship was in port at Izmir, Turkey, said Cmdr. Timothy Gorman, a spokesman for U.S. 6th Fleet.
The incident took place about 3:30 p.m. local time on Sunday, Gorman said in a statement.
“The two Marines were aided by other Marines in the area and were subsequently taken to a local hospital for evaluation as a precaution but were not injured and have returned to the USS Wasp,” Gorman said.

A weak CNN Interview and then the Gold Star Families are savaged – not a good idea

Biden was at the beach. Kamala was invited to Arlington by the Gold Star Families to commemorate the 13 Service Members killed at Abbey Gate in Kabul during the disastrous Biden led withdrawal, but chose not to attend. Former President Trump was invited and attended.
So what does the Deep State do?
