Israel-based company Rafael has announced that its surface-to-air Python 5 and Derby (SPYDER) air defence missile system has been upgraded with new tactical capabilities.
The combat-proven system now features a counter-tactical ballistic missiles (TBM) capability, which is part of the company’s counter-TBM SPYDER programme.
Rafael launched the programme based on its research, analysis, and lessons learnt from the ongoing armed conflicts that involved extensive use of various tactical ballistic missiles.
Elbit Systems has secured a contract to supply new Main Battle Tank (MBT) simulation and training centres for the Israeli Defense Forces’ (IDF) Armoured Corps.
Awarded by the Israeli Ministry of Defence (MoD), the contract has an estimated value of $107m.
As part of the contract, the company will operate and maintain the advanced armour training centres that will be used to train and maintain the operational readiness of Israeli regular and reserve commanders and soldiers.
Delivery of the training centres will be carried out over a period of three years.

U.S. Army AH-64E Apache attack helicopters are now being equipped with the service’s Common Infrared Countermeasures self-protection system, or CIRCM. A directional infrared countermeasures system, CIRCM gives the helicopters a valuable additional layer of defense against incoming heat-seeking, short-range surface-to-air missiles. This includes shoulder-fired types referred to as man-portable air defense systems, or MANPADS, which present very real threats on modern battlefields, as has been most recently highlighted in the course of the ongoing war in Ukraine.

The armed forces of South Korea and the United States are not planning to undertake joint nuclear exercises, the White House has confirmed. The clarification follows comments from South Korea’s President Yoon Suk Yeol suggesting that the two sides were already discussing joint planning for military drills that would involve nuclear assets. At the same time, the United States has confirmed that it’s in discussion with Seoul about other various military matters apart from joint nuclear exercises.
“If it hadn’t been for Charlie Troop, al-Shabaab would have destroyed the aircraft and killed as many people as possible,” Karcher said.
