US-based company Oshkosh Defense has secured a new contract to provide additional tactical trucks and trailers for the US Army.
The new contract has an estimated value of $141m and has been awarded by the US Army’s Tank-Automotive and Armaments Command (TACOM) Life Cycle Management Command (LCMC).
As part of the latest contract, the company will deliver a total of 414 Family of Medium Tactical Vehicles (FMTV) A2 and 56 FMTV trailers.

Austria has finalised a contract to acquire an additional 18 Leonardo AW169 medium-twin helicopters from Italy.
The manufacturer announced the milestone on 19 January, saying that the EUR304 million (USD329 million) deal for the AW169M Light Utility Helicopters (LUHs) follows a declaration of intent signed between Austria and Italy in December 2022.

The Kuwaiti Ministry of Defense has placed a USD370 million order for Bayraktar TB2 unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), the Turkish company Baykar Technology announced on 18 January.
Acquired under a procurement project launched by Kuwait in July 2019, the deal will see the Gulf state acquire an undisclosed number of UAV systems.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) has been trialling unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) in counter-UAS (C-UAS) and counter-improvised explosive device (C-IED) roles to improve force protection.
Working alongside Israeli company Xtend, the IDF Yahalom special operations engineering unit (SOEU) has been experimenting with the company’s Griffon C-UAS and Wolverine UAS over a four-year period to demonstrate their utility in a C-UAS and C-IED role, a platoon commander from the SOEU told Janes on 11 January.

Korea Aerospace Industries’ (KAI’s) KF-21 fighter jet prototypes will be undertaking more rigorous flight-testing to reveal greater details about the performance and capabilities of the new jet.
KAI has three flight-worthy prototypes of the 4.5-generation combat aircraft in operation.

The Canadian Ministry of National Defence (MND) has announced that it will provide a total of 200 Senator armoured personnel carriers (APC) to support the Ukrainian forces.
The announcement was made during Canadian Defence Minister Anita Anand’s visit to Kyiv, Ukraine, on 18 January, where she also met her Ukrainian counterpart Oleksii Reznikov.

A Carl Gustaf 84mm recoilless rifle was confiscated by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) from a passenger flying out of the San Antonio International Airport in Texas this week. Despite reports that have been circulating and TSA’s initial claims on the matter, it turns out that the weapon was demilitarized and could fly as checked luggage, although that is not how things ended up working out.

During World War II, the U.S. and Germany fought great tank battles. Now allies, the two nations are having a tank duel of a different kind. Germany says it won’t allow nations to send German-made Leopard 2 main battle tanks to Ukraine unless the U.S. first sends M-1 Abrams main battle tanks, The Wall Street Journal reported on Wednesday. And the Pentagon on Wednesday repeated the long-standing U.S. opposition to sending those tanks.
