US defence contractor L3Harris Technologies plans to expand its weapons and space portfolio by acquiring US propulsion manufacturer Aerojet Rocketdyne for USD4.7 billion in cash, the two companies announced late on 18 December.
L3Harris chairand CEO Christopher Kubasik said his company would gain a “crucial national asset” in Aerojet Rocketdyne, whose products are used in missiles and launch vehicles.

The Air Force Research Lab has selected Leidos to work on a new hypersonic platform that could both gather intelligence on adversaries and attack them.
The IDIQ research-and-development contract, worth up to $334 million, is for AFRL’s Mayhem project.
“This program is focused on delivering a larger class air-breathing hypersonic system capable of executing multiple missions with a standardized payload interface, providing a significant technological advancement and future capability,” according to a Dec. 16 Defense Department contract award announcement.

FORT MEADE, Md. — U.S. Cyber Command’s Cyber National Mission Force (CNMF) has been declared a subordinate unified command beneath its parent organization.
This designation signifies the codification of the enduring mission of the CNMF to defend the nation in cyberspace, officials said during a ceremony at Fort Meade, Maryland, on Monday.
The mission of the organization is to protect the nation against cyber threats. Its personnel — largely considered to be the best of the best in the cyber ops arena — form task forces organized against specific threat actors.
