The indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity (IDIQ) contract has been awarded as part of the US Army Integrated Fires/Rapid Capabilities Office’s (IFRCO) M-LIDS programme, which is currently underway.
The task order under the IDIQ contract will also see Leonardo DRS providing additional kinetic defeat vehicles and spares for the M-LIDS system.

Today, satellite-guided precision air-to-ground munitions are a familiar part of aerial warfare for the U.S. military and many of its allies and foes alike. The Joint Direct Attack Munition, or JDAM, is perhaps the best-known such weapon and is now almost ubiquitous, with a range of different versions available. Almost forgotten today, however, is its immediate precursor, the pioneering GPS Aided Munition, or GAM, the first weapon of its kind, which emerged from a quick-reaction program to provide more flexible conventional weapons options for the B-2A Spirit stealth bomber.

A video has emerged that reportedly shows an armed Mexican military light single-engine turboprop aircraft conducting a strafing run against elements of the Sinaloa Cartel in the city of Culiacán earlier today. In other footage, members of the cartel appear to be seen firing Barrett .50 caliber anti-materiel rifles and other small arms at unseen aircraft.
