The great warrior G.I. Joe once said that ‘knowing is half the battle,’ but the Air Force is still using antiquated long-range radar systems from the 1960s to know what threats are approaching on the modern battlefield. 
The service plans to fix that with the TPY-4 radar, a ground-based array that has longer range and better coverage than its predecessors and can also pick out smaller objects like unmanned aerial vehicles from the background clutter.

The National Guard plans to increasingly applying 3D printing as an innovative, cost-effective solution to its military construction needs, according to senior officials.
“Last year, the Texas National Guard 3D-printed the first-of-its-kind military barracks,” Chief of the National Guard Bureau Army Gen. Daniel Hokanson told reporters on Tuesday.

On Tuesday, the Pentagon announced that it will be increasing the production of artillery ammunition by 500% over the next two years due to depleted military stockpiles caused by sending millions of shells to Ukraine.
Due to the Biden administration’s promise to send more than one million 155mm artillery shells to Ukraine, the U.S. army will be forced to increase its production numbers from 14,400 155 mm shells a month to more than 90,000 each month.

As the war in Ukraine nears its eleventh consecutive month, the recent high casualty strike conducted on New Year’s Day by the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) against a Russian base in Makiivka has highlighted the importance of Operational Security (OpSec). Following this attack both official and unofficial sources including the Russian Ministry of Defense (MOD) claimed that Russian units were identified and targeted due to their use of unencrypted mobile phones.

Italian industrial partners officially signed up to the Global Combat Air Programme (GCAP) on 26 January.
Leonardo, which heads GCAP development on behalf of Italian industry, announced the development, saying that the concept, assessment, and demonstration activities that will underpin Italy’s participation in the programme are now under way.

Over the course of their careers, military service members around the world all acquire a certain set of skills. This past week, Belarusian soldiers showed off some of those skills at a military demonstration. There are some expected moves — dismounting personnel carriers, guns at the ready, some hand-to-hand combat, and even some knife fighting.

The Army is moving forward with a new directed energy weapon to help provide air defense against swarms of incoming enemy drones.
