The recent U.S. government’s decision to provide 31 M1A2 Abrams tanks to the Ukrainian military has been a very hot topic, even before the official announcement was made. There continue to be discussions about what these tanks will really offer Ukraine’s forces and about concerns that could they could be hard to operate and maintain, especially because of their complex and fuel-hungry gas turbine propulsion system. This all raises an interesting question about whether it might be possible to just fit them with a more traditional diesel internal combustion engine instead.

Brazil is to procure a new main battle tank (MBT), infantry fighting vehicle (IFV), and self-propelled howitzer(SPH), Janes learnt at Defence iQ’s International Armoured Vehicles (IAV) 2023 conference held in London from 23 to 26 January. It is seeking 36 wheeled SPHs.
At the same time, Brazil plans to upgrade 52 of its Leopard 1A1 tanks starting in 2023, with a request for proposals to be made in June.

Germany-based joint venture (JV) company EuroSpike has received an awarded from the Finnish armed forces for Spike anti-tank guided missiles.
EuroSpike is a JV between Rheinmetall Electronics, Diehl Defence, and Rafael Advanced Defense Systems. Rheinmetall holds a 40% stake in the JV.
The exact value of the contract has not been disclosed but it is said to be in the mid-double-digit million-euro range for Rheinmetall.

The missiles will supplement the country’s anti-tank capabilities and enhance the abilities of its anti-tank troops.

will be equipped with Cakir cruise missiles for longer-range targets.

Turkey’s Ares Shipyard has unveiled a new addition to its family of fast interception craft (FIC).

Based around a 32 m advanced composite hull, the new FIC comes in two variants, known as
ARES 32 Predator
and
ARES 32 Dagger
.

Both vessels are built to the same specifications, with a maximum speed of more than 45 kt, a range of 2,000 n miles, and the ability to operate in conditions up to Sea State 6.

Master Sergeant John Chapman received a posthumous Medal of Honor for courageous action during conflict in Takur Ghar, Afghanistan. He was the first Airman to earn a Medal of Honor for service during the War on Terrorism.
Background and early life
Master Sergeant John Chapman was born on July 14, 1965, in Springfield, Massachusetts. During his childhood, his family relocated to Connecticut where he eventually attended Windsor Locks High School. Two years after graduating, he decided to enlist in the United States Air Force.

Among the chief complaints of Soviet troops was their rations. This led to them boiling ammunition, but not to eat (the rations weren’t that bad).

Ralph Corbett Smith was born in Nebraska in 1893. He had no way of knowing it a the time, but he was going to be a part of U.S. Army history in many ways. He would serve in three armed conflicts, earn one of the earliest pilot’s licenses, and would be the last general officer of World War II to pass away, long after the war’s end. 
Smith gave his entire young life to the U.S. Army, and would spend more than 32 years serving in it. After graduating from college in Colorado, he joined the Colorado National Guard.

When Amy Schweizer married her Marine, she knew life would be different. Within years of saying “I do,” they were overseas and she lost her career. So, she built a new one. A lifelong soccer player who’d even played professionally, sports were her passion. With her Master’s in Sports Management, Schweizer had interned with the Philadelphia 76ers basketball team and was on her way to work for the NFL, specifically the Jaguars in Jacksonville. 
But before Schweizer headed to the Sunshine State, she was finishing up her role with the Boys and Girls Club.
