The Luftwaffe is progressing work to upgrade Büchel Air Base ahead of the arrival of the first Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) later this decade.
The Inspector of the Air Force, Lieutenant General Ingo Gerhartz, visited the base, which is planned to accommodate all 35 of the Luftwaffe’s F-35As, on 6 February, with the service’s official Twitter account noting that work is moving forward.

The aerospace and defence industry continues to be a hotbed of innovation, with activity driven by the use of big data, and artificial intelligence, and growing importance of technologies such as machine learning and edge computing. In the last three years alone, there have been over 174,000 patents filed and granted in the aerospace and defence industry, according to GlobalData’s report on Cloud in Aerospace, Defence & Security: Drone launching techniques.
However, not all innovations are equal and nor do they follow a constant upward trend.

The aerospace and defence industry continues to be a hotbed of innovation, with the conflict in Ukraine driving defence spending and investment, the need to combat emerging technologies such as hypersonics, and growing importance of technologies such as AI and computer vision. In the last three years alone, there have been over 174,000 patents filed and granted in the aerospace and defence industry, according to GlobalData’s report on Robotics in Aerospace, Defence & Security: Multi-axis drone gimbals.
However, not all innovations are equal and nor do they follow a constant upward trend.

India’s naval LCA conducting its maiden landing on INS

India has marked another milestone in its effort to operationalise the aircraft carrier INS Vikrant with the first landings of a naval light combat aircraft (LCA) and MiG-29K fighter on the ship.
The milestone was achieved by the Indian Navy on 6 February as part of the vessel’s aviation trials, the country’s Ministry of Defence (MoD) announced in a media release on the same day.

US-based company Oshkosh Defense has been awarded a new contract to supply additional Joint Light Tactical Vehicles (JLTV) to the US Army.
The contract has an estimated value of $84.9m and was awarded by the US Army Contracting Command – Detroit Arsenal, Michigan.
According to the US Department of Defense announcement, the company will carry out the associated JLTV production work at its facility in Wisconsin, US.

Work under the new order is expected to be complete by August next year.

According to a recent report by Russian state media, the Russian Navy’s Project 22350M will be equipped with surface-to-air missiles (SAMs) with a maximum range of 400 kilometers.
