In his 2002 State of the Union Address, President George W. Bush lumped in Iraq, Iran and North Korea together as an “Axis of Evil.” At the time, many criticized the speech, wondering what North Korea had to do with Iran or Iraq – but at least one person was listening, apparently.
South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol was visiting South Korean special operations forces in the United Arab Emirates on January 16, 2023.

“Picket duty” might sound like a boring punishment or the job for the person who drew the short straw. But as the story of the USS Laffey illustrates, it’s an important and dangerous responsibility. Here’s how that ship became the “Ship That Would Not Die” in 1945.
April, 16, 1945. The war in Europe was almost over. Allied forces were so close to Berlin that America halted air attacks on the city to prevent accidentally killing Russian forces. In the Pacific, the Philippines were nearly liberated and Japan was losing battle after battle.

If you’re a veteran who has started their own small business, congratulations! If you’re selling something other than coffee and t-shirts, even better! You’ve worked hard to acquire capital, build inventory and advertise your small business. Don’t you think you should protect it? Small business insurance, specifically a business owners policy, is like that on-tap air support you had overseas. You hoped that you didn’t need it, you sure were glad to have someone watching over you.

Saul Zaentz started out in the music industry post his service in the Army during World War II. He worked with the Jazz at the Philharmonic which included him managing tours for such musicians as Duke Ellington and Stan Getz. He joined Fantasy Records in the mid-1950s and stayed there through the 1960s having discovered Creedence Clearwater Revival. Although CCR and Zaentz didn’t end on the best terms they did find a lot of success during their partnership. He went into movie production and found further success with some Oscar-winning titles you may be familiar with.

Although images of World War I largely depict the trenches of Europe, the First World War was truly a worldwide conflict. Japan and Britain attacked German possessions in the Far East, Russians and Ottoman troops fought rebellions and pitched battles in Central Asia, and the war raged across parts of Africa. The war on the sea was even brought against German warships on the lakes of Africa.

Throughout World War II, the United States government launched a series of media campaigns designed to keep Americans’ eyes on the prize: total victory and unconditional surrender. But that’s easier said than done, especially when the war is going well. In 1943, American forces had landed in North Africa, helped the Allies push the German Afrika Korps out of the continent, then turned around and invaded Sicily and Italy.
It was a good pace, but the government needed to maintain that pace and keep the populace from getting complacent.
