The aerospace and defence industry continues to be a hotbed of innovation, with the conflict in Ukraine driving defence spending and investment, the need to combat emerging technologies such as hypersonics, and growing importance of technologies such as AI and computer vision. In the last three years alone, there have been over 174,000 patents filed and granted in the aerospace and defence industry, according to GlobalData’s report on Robotics in Aerospace, Defence & Security: Remote-controlled pick up drones.

India’s Council of Scientific and Industrial Research-National Aerospace Laboratories (CSIR-NAL) has showcased a scale model of a new variant of its Saras multirole commuter aircraft at Aero India 2023, being held in Bangalore from 13 to 17 February.
The Saras-Mk II features a high wing and turboprop engines mounted on wings in tractor configuration as opposed to a low wing and pusher engine configuration on the baseline Saras.

Newport News Shipbuilding is preparing to test the combat systems for the carrier

Aircraft carrier John F Kennedy should enter combat system testing this quarter, according to Christopher Kastner, president, CEO, and director of Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII), whose Newport News Shipbuilding unit is constructing the ship.
“CVN 79 Kennedy is well into the test programme,” Kastner said during a quarterly investment call with investment analysts on 9 February.

During the Cold War, the world weapons market was basically divided into “Western-style” and “Soviet-style”. Western weapons were expensive, but they had a good performance and full functions; Soviet-style weapons were relatively crude, with single functions, but relatively cheap.

In fact, the weapons of the Soviet Union are by no means inferior to those of Europe and the United States.

With an eye on Ukraine’s need to defend against the ongoing Russian offensive, NATO plans to implement new guidelines on stockpiles while also working with member countries’ defense industries to increase their own arsenals while continuing to fill the de Kiev.
Speaking to reporters Monday at NATO headquarters in Brussels, Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg was blunt in his assessment of ammunition stockpiles and delivery schedules.
“The current rate of ammunition consumption is higher, greater than the current rate of production. That’s a fact,” Stoltenberg said.

The United States showcased its F-35 stealth fighter for the first time at the Indian Air Show.

According to a report by the Russian Satellite News Agency on February 14, the United States demonstrated the F-35A stealth fighter for the first time at the Indian Air Show. According to the organizer of the Indian air show, the F-35A “Lightning” II from the Eielson Air Force Base in Alaska will be unveiled at the show, and the fighter jets will be displayed statically at the show.
