The U.S. Congressional Budget Office has released a new assessment estimating that the first vessel of the U.S. Navy’s proposed BBG(X) nuclear-powered battleship program, commonly referred to as the Trump class, will cost approximately $23 billion to construct. The report estimates the total cost of a planned fleet of 15 ships at around $275 billion, with an average procurement cost of roughly $18 billion per vessel over the life of the program.

The United States is looking to develop a new generation of highly mobile air-defence radars, after U.S. and allied missile-defence systems faced sustained attacks and saw multiple high and medium value radar installations destroyed. The destruction of air defence radars in the early stages of the war, after Washington initiated hostilities on February 28, has served as a valuable force multiplier for Iranian ballistic missile and drone strikes, limiting situational awareness for the U.S. and its strategic partners.

Given the relentless demand for computing power, electronic components are in scarce supply. Prices for certain memory chips, known as DRAM, have surged by more than 50 percent in a single quarter this year, and have roughly quadrupled since last fall. Because DRAM supply is tight, Apple, Dell, and HP are currently evaluating memory from ChangXin Memory Technologies (CXMT), a company the Pentagon has designated as a Chinese military company. Apple, in particular, has sought assurances from the U.S. government that CXMT will not face future sanctions that would cut off its supply.

Russia is continuing to expand and reorganise its production of missiles and long-range strike drones, making a sustained pause in attacks against Ukraine unlikely, according to Vadym Skibitsky, Deputy Head of Ukraine’s Main Intelligence Directorate. According to Skibitsky, Russia is currently producing major missile types at 110–120 percent of its monthly production plans, allowing the Russian Armed Forces to maintain a high tempo of long-range strikes despite the substantial expenditure of missiles since the beginning of full scale hostilities in 2022.

One of the most high-profile complaints made most recently by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is that his cities are getting pounded every night by Russian ballistic missile attacks, and there is nothing his missile defense batteries can do about it.

Ukraine has run out of the Patriot PAC-3 Missile Segment Enhancement (MSE) interceptor missiles, and there are almost no stocks left in any country that could be sent to Ukraine as replacement inventory.
